Edible York started this project in 2011. The York Orchard supports community groups, schools and others to graft, plant and maintain edible fruit trees.

Thanks to generous funding from The Joseph Rowntree Foundation York Fund, we planted 200 fruit trees in the winter of 2012-13. This means an additional 20,000 fresh pieces of fruit every year to feed our city (equivalent to the number of school children in our city!).

Since then a further 100 trees have been planted in schools, community gardens, housing estates, and the City
